Fruit Trees

It appears the orchard is finally going to happen. I have wanted an orchard for years. Last week I purchased three grape vines, and this afternoon I purchased four fruit trees.

Canadice Seedless Grape
Flame Seedless Grape
Thompson Seedless Grape
Santa Rosa Plum
Moonglow Pear
Hale Haven Peach
Redskin Peach

This is just the beginning of my orchard. I still need to get other varieties as pollinators.Years ago I planted an Arkansas Black apple tree and an unknown variety of plum. They have bloomed each spring, but have never produced fruit because they had no pollinator. Each spring and fall I would like to add more varieties. Eventually I would like a full range of fruit like apples, peaches, pears, plums, cherries, kiwi, grapes, muscadines, berries, and more.

  1. Me too, me too! We started last year creating an orchard area and we are so proud of our fruit-in-waiting. We have two of the Santa Rosa plums that we planted last weekend. They look lovely. Good luck!

  2. I planted a small orchard on the land we used to have. We decided to sell it and bought another place, which is much more of what we wanted, so it was a good thing, except for leaving my orchard behind. :( I just ordered 2 Honeyberry bushes (like blueberries), a fig tree and 2 plum trees. I have two mulberry trees here at my house in the suburbs. When I receive my order, I'm going to take them all up and get a new orchard started.

    1. I remember as a child in Ohio climbing our mulberry tree to munch as many berries as I could reach.
Now I must add both mulberry and honeyberry to my must have list.

  3. Melody,

I made my recent order from Gurney's. The mulberry trees were bought locally though, last season. I can't wait for them to grow, so I can make jam!
